A PRESENTATION BY LINDA RUMNEY TO NOMINATE AMANDA HEFFINGER FOR THE PMR OF THE YEAR AWARD....
Most of you don’t know the person that I want to nominate for PMR of the Year and most likely you never will. There is a very good reason for that. She has never been to a LEAGUE function or a convention because she has always been available for me anytime I need her, which makes it impossible for her to be there.

This PMR’s name is Amanda Heffinger and she is employed at Anawalt, West Virginia. She was PMR when I arrived there as Postmaster in 2000 and helped me tremendously by showing me the ropes in that particular office. In the six years that I was there she was never once unavailable to work. I’ve had to call her at the last minute many times because I was called by my MPOO at the last minute to go out and do a transfer or help another Postmaster in an emergency situation. No matter what, Mandy was up to the task. She has been a PMR for almost ten years and is one of the most loyal people to the postal service that I have ever known. She has scheduled all her family outings around my schedule for these past six years. The few Saturdays that she took off, she made sure that there was another PMR available to work so that I wouldn’t have to do it. When someone else works for her she always calls that person to make sure that they have everything they need. If I’m gone for a few days, she even calls me as soon as I get to work to make sure that I’m there and that everything is ok in the office.

Mandy is not only the most dedicated PMR that I have ever known, she is also a breast cancer survivor who has spent a lot of her spare time comforting others who suffer from this disease and inspiring them by telling them of her success story in her battle with cancer.

In 2001 a
devastating flood hit McDowell County and ravaged the community of
Anawalt. The
post office suffered some flooding and many homes were destroyed
including Mandy’s. It
was heartbreaking to see the pain that she and many of our customers
went through. Mandy
had lived in her home for many years and it was completely destroyed
along with almost everything she owned.
This didn’t stop Mandy.
She didn’t miss a day of work after the flood
hit. Even though
she had almost nothing left, she wanted to be at work to comfort her
customers who had also lost everything.
Mandy has
been OIC at Anawalt and Switchback WV and also helps out in neighboring
offices in the area. She
is 62 years old but has more energy than many half her age. When Mandy works the
office is always spic and span. She
is one who does the job and does it very well without being told. I am out of my office
quite a bit due to doing Aviation audits and office transfers along
with my LEAGUE duties and I have never had to worry about the office
because I know Mandy is there and it is in very capable hands.

I know
that many neighboring Postmasters and PMRs call when I’m not
there with questions. Mandy
is very knowledgeable and always tries to help them.
If she doesn’t know the answer to their question
she makes sure that she finds it.
I
truly believe that Mandy deserves to be the PMR of the Year and if
there were a PMR of the Decade award I would nominate her for that too.
...... Thanks Amanda for allowing me to post this nomination on Country Roads so all your friends and classmates can see it, and know what a special lady you are..... bssims
